mathiports was founded in 2017 by Bjarne Mathiesen who has more than 40 years of international experience within seaports, including management, consultancy and research. He offers his expertise to port businesses of all sizes, based on a practical approach and a deep theoretical background.

Port Director, CEO, Port of Aarhus

Responsible for all matters including strategic development and day-to-day management of a multi-purpose port being the main container port in Denmark and the main port for import of animal feedstuff in dry bulk. The port also includes Ro/Ro ferry terminals, liquid bulk terminals and a cruise terminal.

Responsible for all the Company's consultancy activities in Aarhus and Herning. Responsible for international port activities. Member of the Board of Directors, Ramboll group, Denmark. Appointed by the owner (Ramboll Foundation).

 

1994-1999

Head of Section, Ramboll

Responsible for Transport and Infrastructure and international port planning and construction activities in Ramboll, Denmark.

Ramboll's representative in the Management Committee developing, establishing and supervising the LT-Ramboll joint venture between Larsen & Toubro and Ramboll in Chennai, India (1998). Project Director for North West Regional Transport Study, Russia, financed by the European Commission.

 

1991-1994

Resident Representative, Team Leader, Coastal Engineer, Kampsax International

Feasibility study, planning and detailed design of cyclonic surge protection (embankments and afforestation). Preparation, international tendering and signing of construction contracts with Bangladeshi and Chinese contractors. Team leader and responsible for the execution of more than 80 km embankment in cyclone prone areas. The project was financed by the World bank, the European Commission, Japanese Government and Saudi Arabian Fund.

 

1981-1991

Project Engineer, Ramboll & Hannemann

Feasibility studies, planning and design of marine structures and ports in a number of countries including int.al. Russia, Spain, Norway, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Mozambique, Malawi, Tanzania, Tunisia, Mauretania, Benin, Ghana.

Research Engineer, Norwegian Hydrodynamic Laboratories

Basic and contractual research within marine sediment transport, river hydraulics and harbor hydraulics. Publications in international conferences and journals.
